Our ultimate cycling challenge will take place November 10th - November 16th 2019. We will take you from bustling Bo through lush green landscapes and welcoming local communities, to one of Sierra Leone's most beautiful beaches. You'll get off the beaten track, visit Street Child's projects and cycle all the way to a tropical palm-fringed beach in the West where you can sit back, relax and enjoy a beer or two - you’ve earnt it!
Day 1 - Transfer to Bo and acclimatisation
After your flight arrives in Freetown, Sierra Leone you will be greeted by Street Child staff and travel to Bo. Once in Bo, you'll meet the local Street Child team. We'll allocate you a bike and our amazing mechanic Karim will set it up for you. Enjoy an induction and safety briefing from the Street Child team before your first visit to one of our projects in Bo.
Day 2 - Bo to Yele - Distance: 80km
On your first day of cycling you will head out from Bo towards Yele and will include a project visit en route. Cycle on hard-packed mud roads. On arrival in Yele, you'll be greeted by the village chief and the local community. Stay in basic accommodation.
Day 3 - Yele to Makeni - Distance: 72km
Head out from Yele to Makeni, enjoy really quiet, lightly undulating rural roads. That night you'll stay with the local community and guesthouses.
Day 4 - Makeni to Kamakwie - Distance: 92km
You’ll start day 4 with a project visit in Makeni before cranking it up a gear, cycling on hilly and challenging terrain with views of Makeni’s beautiful mountain range. Stay in basic accommodation.
Day 5 - Kamakwie to Kambia - Distance: 108km
The longest day in the saddle but definitely the most magical. Starting at the crack of dawn, you’ll ride through the northernmost chiefdoms until you cross the finish line in Kambia.
DAY 6 - Bureh Beach Stay
Sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful sands of Bureh beach. You can also choose to extend your trip further and stay at the stunning coastal retreat of Bureh beach on a bed and breakfast basis.
